The Café Restaurant at Ty Ebbw Fach, AbertilleryClient: Six Bells Regeneration Ltd
The local community, having lost the only pub in the village and also the majority of commercial premises, joined together to form a trust calling itself “Six Bells Regeneration Ltd”. The Trust’s objective being to form a co-operative capable of operating their own community centre, it was envisaged that the centre would a visitor centre by day and a restaurant and pub by night thereby acting as the focal point of community activities within the village. After considerable effort, some Local Authority and European assistance the Trust acquired the old Coach & Horses pub located in Six Bells, the committee immediately set about fundraising to enable the building to be renovated.
Following an invitation to submit a kitchen design, RACS were shortlisted to enter the competitive tendering process stage. RACS were successful and subsequently appointed, their design being the preferred choice of the Trust’s committee.
RACS in-house project management team was formed on receipt of the order to proceed and immediately set about producing detailed drawings of the kitchen, associated mechanical and electrical services and a purpose designed ventilation system. The extract canopy incorporating an odour control system designed to meet the Local Authority Planning Department’s requirements.
