Llandybie Community School
Llandybie School
VENUE: The school stands on a rise overlooking the village and the beautiful surrounding countryside. It is a designated bilingual primary school catering for 270 pupils.
OBJECTIVE: To modernise the school catering facilities by undertaking a complete kitchen fit-out. The successful contractor would have responsibilities extending beyond the supply and installation of all catering equipment and were required to incorporate the mechanical and electrical services, ventilation, Altro wall cladding, Altro safety flooring, ceilings, lighting etc. within their contract.
SOLUTION: RACS were appointed as main contractor and faced challenges very similar to the Ysgol Rhys Pritchard project (also awarded to RACS). Yet again, the project brief was to ensure that the extract canopy remained independent of the roof structure due to its in-ability to support its weight. The RACS Design Team overcame this issue by the innovative and creative application of engineering experience, designing a floor mounted support frame (hidden within the Stainless Steel vertical services chambers) which passed through the canopy and supported it from above.
