10. CATERING FOR EDUCATION YSGOL GYFUN BRO MYRDDIN
		RACS supplied and installed 2 combination ovens, a 6 burner range and solid top, 3 deep fat fryers, a salamander and microwave in the main work area, together with hot cupboards and preparation facilities, including vegetable preparation machines, potato peeler and food mixers. In addition, two walk in cold rooms and a walk in freezer room were installed, as well as a separate conveyor fed pot wash facility. With the floor and wall cladding, and the servery, refrigerated counters and mobile cash desks, RACS provided the complete solution. Using a mixture of LP Gas and Electric powered equipment, the school now has the most effective kitchen from both an ergonomic and financial viewpoint, as well as being able to provide a more flexible menu than in the previous buildings, covering breakfasts during morning break, and a wide range of both hot and cold foods at lunch time.
Ysgol Gyfun Bro Myrddin is an LEA maintained 11-18+ co-educational bi-lingual comprehensive school with a catchment area for pupils ranging from Llandeilo in the East to Haverfordwest in the West. The move to a single school campus, situated on the outskirts of the County town of Carmarthen, was made in the Autumn of 1996 from a much older site within the town of Carmarthen, where the facilities had been outgrown by this popular educational establishment. With some 750 pupils on role, the school had some difficulty in providing the facilities they desired in the older buildings, with pupils having to queue for lunch in the open air at times. This modern, purpose built, school campus concentrates all pupils on one site, with provision for games in the surrounding playing fields. The new kitchen and dining hall provide a considerable improvement on the original facilities. The design and layout of the kitchen and servery were provided by the Local Education Authority, with RACS submitting the most cost effective supply and installation tender. All installation work was completed to time, so that the school could be opened during the Autumn half term break.
